Underground Slate Mine Adventure
Take a Step Back in Time and Explore the Abandoned Slate Mine
Underground Slate Mine
Our Underground Adventure is a great trip in to an abandoned slate mine. We explore the chambers and caverns, climb up through the levels, and learn all about the history and how people used to live in North Wales and work the mines in the 18th/19th Century.
It’s dark, it’s extensive, it’s complex and there’s generations of history in the mines here in Snowdonia. It’s as much an adventure as it is industrial archeology. We’ll tell you the stories of how the mines came about, and how people used to work down here, some 200 years ago…
What to Expect
Once we’re geared up, we walk up in to the mountains to find the hidden entrance to the slate mine. We head inside, exploring the tunnels, chambers and levels, before exiting at the top, some 250ft further up the mountain.
It’s a really interesting trip; it’s a real abandoned mine, no lights, no safety barriers. There’s no tight spaces (if you’re claustrophobic); the miners have excavated huge cathedral sized chambers inside the mountain, it’s absolutely spectacular.
