Had some top quality adventures over the Easter ho Had some top quality adventures over the Easter holidays. I always head in to Easter a bit hesitant; I get a lot of families, with a lot of small children and the weather can be anything from snowing to 24° sun. It is certainly not the easiest conditions for Canyoning. Every year I am blown away by some of the small people we take out. Mega psyched to get in the river, really interested in discovering the nature, fully up for exploring. Thanks again to all the solid adventurers I took out over the last couple of weeks 🙏 💪 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
.
Hopefully our trips really made your holiday in North Wales! It was also really nice to have lots of returning customers. It’s great to see people year after year.
.
for the next few weekends, I’ll probably mainly be taking out lots of adult groups, with a few bank holidays around the corner before half term arrives. Once May hits the conditions are often considerably more forgiving ☀️

Getting stuck in your mind on the edge of the big Getting stuck in your mind on the edge of the big jump on the Canon Xtreme trip. There are lots of commercial adventures and experiences to be had in North Wales, but honestly, none are as big and all encompassing as our trip down the river. There’s Karting, ZipLining, Roller Coasters and all manner of adventure activities but nothing is going to stretch you psychologically like this jump 🤘
.
To top things off, just before I started filming the heavens opened to an almighty hail storm, cranking up the atmosphere a couple more notches. Not that we needed it 🤣
.
Fortunately, if you don’t think this jump is for you it’s not a problem. All the jumps on the trip are easily avoidable and you can make the choice yourself. You don’t want to jump? Just don’t climb up! It’s well worth coming down the gorge for the scenery along. The temperate rainforest will blow your mind! The nature, the wildlife, the colours, the waterfalls.

7th April, Easter heatwave 🔥 it’s been great to se 7th April, Easter heatwave 🔥 it’s been great to see lots of families faces this week with quite a few families returning for more adventure!
.
Here’s the team enjoying the Canyoning adventure. We’ve had a real mixed bag of weather this Easter with snow, 80mph+ winds, and also 24° sun 🤷‍♂️ ☀️ 🐣
.
This trip great for approx age 7-11 give or take. In low water smaller people can manage the big slides and abseil, in very high water (fairly unusual; mega rain) small people may need to avoid it. We’ve found loads of wildlife including much evidence of the otter, lots of birds-life, we found a birds egg (whole!), many frogs.

The first few Canyoning trips of the year are in t The first few Canyoning trips of the year are in the bank. Lots of returning customers this year Easter which is always really nice to see. Amazingly we have some families that have been coming out with us for over 12 years!
.
You would expect it to be absolutely freezing, but as you can see in the video; the boys (all age 8-10) are having an awesome time in the river. This was Monday morning!
.
Next week there is still a fair bit of availability going on our Canyon, Canyon extreme and Rock Climbing trips. At this time of year I don’t recommend anyone under the ages of about 7/8 goes in the river, although it’s possible!
.
if you’re interested in booking an adventure with us pretty much all the information you need is on the website and you can also book online there. If you’d rather, you could instead drop me an email or a WhatsApp and we can get organised like that ✌️ 🐣 🐑 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
Sunrise Sortie . Ive just returned from a three w Sunrise Sortie
.
Ive just returned from a three week climbing trip to Kalymnos for some work over Easter. Day 1 I had a team of stags in the canyon. Day 2 I had a mountain day planned with Chris.
.
The forecast on the other hand had other ideas. It was saying torrential rain, 3° in the valley, and 60mph gusts on the summits… this is not conducive to a day in the mountains scrambling an easy climbing!
.
Our best chance for a good day out as far as I could see was trying to meet as early as physically possible. Luckily the clocks go forward the night before, so I float the idea of meeting at 6:30am (which is dawn), in reality it’s 530! To my surprise Chris says okay. Great!
.
We meet under the north ridge of Tryfan and it’s basically still dark. Amazingly, the ground is dry and it’s not very windy. An hour later we’re high up on the heat. Terrace stood underneath Pinnacle Rib Route.
.
Chris has never climbed outside but he has done a little bit scrambling so I’m hopeful. I explain that the hardest climbing is straight away, which doesn’t give us much of a warmup, but it does mean that when the rain comes in the worst should be behind us.
.
Before you know it we are four or five pitches in and despite a bit of snow blowing around, essentially, things are still amazingly amenable! So amenable in fact that Chris opts to climb the yellow slab, an extremely polished and cruxy pitch of Severe 4b climbing which is often avoided!
.
Above some beautiful striated rock formations and we enjoy the last few pictures that lead directly to the summit blocks of Adam and Eve on the top of Tryfan. The snow has really started to fall as Chris pulls over the top, but we’re still feeling pretty good; no one is cold,
no one is wet.

Alpine Excursions Pt2 . A few weeks back I met And Alpine Excursions Pt2
.
A few weeks back I met Andy for day 2 in the Ogwen Valley. The forecast was worse, with colder northly winds and on off rain. We were prepared for this though.
.
Starting up Idwal Buttress the crag was a bit of a stream but we took an open line higher up and moved left after grassy terrace to take in some great climbing up the rocks above The Idwal Staircase.
.
The rock up there is immaculate and there are a whole heap of options when it comes to route choice. We topped out and had lunch under the huge volcanic boulder that sits above the crag, just at the base of Cwm Cneifion. You’ll know the one if you’ve been there; the size of a minibus and full of gas pockets and interesting structures.
.
Cneifion Arete wasn’t exactly a difficult sell and Andy made light work of the first two crux pitches despite the pouring rain. I cheerfully explained that the climbing above was easy and we would be out of there in no time.
.
Pitch after pitch we continued and I must admit there were still quite a few tricky bits! By the time we finally pulled over the top I think we were both fairly ready to head back to the cars and some warmth and somewhere dry!
.
We had a great couple of days and I think I ticked the boxes of as much climbing as physically possible! Our main focus was improving climbing technique and learning how to “keep yourself safe” aka be a competent (and helpful!) second. If you’re looking for some guided climbing or scrambling in North Wales hit me up. My weekends are now booked out though but I can do midweek ⛰️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🗺️ 🧭
Stags, Hens and other big groups 🦌 🐓 . This is th Stags, Hens and other big groups 🦌 🐓
.
This is the time of year when people are getting organised, planned weekend away and sorting bookings.
.
Over the past few weeks we’ve taken quite a lot of group bookings. Our availability is very limited since it’s only myself (George) and Rachel that personally run the trips here at Snowdonia Adventure Activities.
.
If you’re part of a bigger group then you need to get organised but once we start taking bookings we often don’t have the space to accommodate other large groups. If there’s only a few of you and you have a few date options, you don’t need to worry so much, although we’re almost always fully booked every weekend of the year.
.
Our Canyon Xtreme trip is the absolute best activity you can do in North Wales. It’s exciting, it’s got a load of optional heart stopping features, it’s got amazing scenery and nature, the water is great for clearing a hangover, and it’s ideal in sh*t weather!
.
If you’re heading to Snowdonia as part of a group then definitely get in touch I can absolutely guarantee that no matter what else you do, this will be the highlight of your trip.
.
Our online system has fairly up to date availability but it’s always best to get in touch direct anyway. We are also happy to run extra sessions and also mid week trips even when there’s nothing showing online. Drop us an email or WhatsApp.

Christmas Climbing - Sexual Salami . A couple of d Christmas Climbing - Sexual Salami
.
A couple of days after Christmas my friend Ben asked if I fancied getting out on some trad; he’d heard the peg on Sexual Salami (e5 6b) on Fear Buttress above Pant Ifan (Tremadog) had been replaced (Redhead routes are easy to identify, both by their names and in their climbing).
.
We’d had freezing northerlies but the sun was out; I agreed and suggested we bring at least 7 layers each. I also warned I’d been up there to check it out twice in the past and both times left with my tail between my legs…
.
My god the sun was blasting! After abseiling in we were in t-shirts, genuinely! I couldn’t believe our luck. I went first and we both had a couple of top ropes before climbing out for lunch.
.
The route is amazing; two tough boulder problems, both “above” gear and a bit airy. I wouldn’t call the route dangerous but it certainly feels pretty out there. You get a lot of gear for the low crux but you end up a long way from it. You don’t get much gear for the top crux but it’s pretty good and there’s a new old peg in there so that could mean something if pegs make you feel better.
.
Since I’d managed to do both cruxes and I decided the route was “safe enough” I figured I would be shying away from the challenge if I didnt at least tie in. As usual on the lead go I was moving slow so my arms were good but my feet were killing! The low crux was indeed pretty scary and I just about scratched through to the “safety” of the peg (and wire and micro-cam).
.
Bens sequence for the top worked really well for me (rock out the roof using a crystal out right, not the obvious foothold closer in) and as I topped out I had this huge rush of relief and adrenalin. I suddenly remembered what this trad malarkey was all about - the endorphin release was intense!
.
The route is amazing, I’m sure it’s harder for the short (feels hard anyway 😂) and if you want any info there’s a good RP and halfnut (1?) to backup the low peg, and there’s a good small wire, poor halfnut2 and very good gold dragonfly (way out left use a 120cm sling) to backup the top peg.
.

Easter Adventures 🐣 🐰 ⛰️ 🤙 . Easter is around the Easter Adventures 🐣 🐰 ⛰️ 🤙
.
Easter is around the corner and we are starting to get booked up! We are offering plenty of Canyoning (approx. age 8+) and Canyon Xtreme (~11+) trips.
.
We have selected rock climbing sessions going (if no suit drop us an email) and a couple of kayaking trips too. I generally advise the river is still a bit cold for very young children i.e. age 4-7 (but I do get surprised every year by some warriors). I also think the sea is a bit too cold for Coasteering (too much swimming!).
.
You will notice online the availability begin to disappear; it’s worth getting organised in advance. Whilst Easter is not our busiest time of the year we generally are out every single day and I recommend booking as soon as your able to, especially if you’ve got a particular day you’d like to get out with us.
.
This year we open on Saturday the 28th March. For 16 days we’re open every day. If the activity, time or date you see online doesn’t fit with your schedule you can always drop us an email or a WhatsApp. We often have a little bit of flexibility or at least we can normally accommodate people one way or another. Alpine Excursions . When Andy got in touch early J Alpine Excursions
.
When Andy got in touch early January asking about some guided scrambling in preparation for some climbing in the Alps I was quick to explain that the conditions here in North Wales in February probably weren’t going to be conducive. At the time we had had 9 days of snow with the A5 being closed on two occasion. People were skiing all over the place…
.
February rolls around and by some miracle all the snow melts 2 days before Andy arrives. Excellent! Day 1 I offer up the idea of Clogwyn y Person Arete, a brilliant grade 3 high above Cwm Glas on the flanks of Snowdon. Sheltered from the southerly winds, with no rain forecast until the afternoon.
.
The walk in was fine, we hit the cloud line almost immediately and I was slightly disorientated turning the lip of the high Cwm only to be met with more cloud and no sign of the cliff. We continued in the right direction, with me promising “it’s definitely here” only for it to suddenly loom up above us as we got right up against the wall.
.
Great climbing, nice big comfortable stances, lots of variety. It took us a couple of hours to get up there and we probably did it in around 10-12 pitches including some horrendously wet green V-groove up top that Andy didnt want to skirt. The only downside was zero exposure or sense of height because visibility was about 10m!
.
There was a bit of snow on the summit slopes, the rain began to fall and we had 30mph winds picking up. I suggested we either tag the summit of Eryri and follow the ridge back in to Cwm Glas, or, for the “full” experience continued over Crib y Ddysgyl, Crib Goch and then down the North Ridge.
.
The full experience is what we got. I severely underestimated the time it would take to cross both ridges and it was pretty tricky going in the wind and the wet. We managed it in the end though and spent the walk off back in the Pass discussing Oil since this was Andy’s profession. I always learn a lot from everyone I take out! Always!
.
{after writing this post I realised I accidentally left my phone in the car that day! No photos!}

I had the privilege of taking Henry and James out I had the privilege of taking Henry and James out on their first proper mountain scramble last weekend. They were on a visit to North Wales with the idea of hiking a few mountains but wanted to get a proper “scramble” in on their last day.
.
We were fortunate with the forecast; the freezing level had risen to 1100m so essentially no real ice or snow to contend with. We opted for the big lap up Tryfan, on to Bristly Ridge and Glyder Fach before descending the Gribbin ridge.
.
We roped up for the North Tower on Tryfan so that we could safely forge a direct line up the best most difficult scrambling. It was pretty much a blizzard on top, the first bit of proper weather, but it never really cleared up after that despite seeing quite a bit of sun in the valley, and a massive rainbow 🌈
.
We roped up again for Bristly Ridge because the gully is fairly serious and the rock was wet. The summit plateau on Glyder Fach had a bit of wet snow but generally it was ok (it not very windy!), and the descent down Y Gribbin was steady on the mind and tiring on the knees. All in all I think we were out around 8hrs? No head torches required although I don’t think we were far off!
.

New for us in 2025 has been our Coasteering trips. New for us in 2025 has been our Coasteering trips. Whilst we’ve had the space to run a limited number of session, we’ve really enjoyed our adventures in the sea 🌊
.
This morning was perfect for James and Carey (visiting Americans). Blue skies, no wind, very clear blue water and a fun small swell.
.
The trip along the coastline is great; jumps, climbs, swims, wave machines, sea caves, zawns, islands, even a scramble out across Crib Goch On Sea.
.
I quite enjoy the variety down there. There’s a huge variety of conditions; tide height and swell/waves are the two big factors here and whilst tides are easy to predict, the waves aren’t quite so simple!
.
There’s some massive jumps on the trip and enough to get anyone wobbling up there on the edge. The best thing is it’s all optional, you want to go big it’s all yours, you want to swim around it’s no problem.
.
September is undoubtedly the best month for coasteering. The sea is still 17° and the big depressions out in the Atlantic are sending plenty of big powerful swells our way. We have a bit of availability online but generally if you’re interested just drop us a message 🤘
